Bihar: At least five people have died after a massive explosion at a house where firecrackers were reportedly stored and manufactured in Alampur village of Bihar’s Siwan district. The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of Jamo Bazar police station on Friday, October 23, triggering panic in the area.

Siwan Superintendent of Police Bharat Soni confirmed five deaths, while authorities continued search and rescue operations amid fears that more people could be trapped beneath the debris. The powerful explosion caused part of the house to collapse, sending debris onto the road. Repeated blasts reportedly continued intermittently for nearly two hours, making the situation more dangerous for residents and rescue teams.

Rescue Operations and Investigation Underway

According to SP Bharat Soni, the medical team confirmed that five bodies had been recovered. Officials were also attempting to trace people who were believed to have been outside the house when the explosion occurred. Authorities were checking whether anyone else remained trapped beneath the debris.

A Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team reached the scene to collect evidence, while a Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad was also deployed. Drones were used to survey the affected area, and officials began a detailed search of the damaged building after the fire was brought under control.

The exact cause of the explosion remains under investigation. Police said an FIR would be registered and that investigators would examine the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the storage and handling of the firecrackers.

Senior district officials visited the site as rescue and investigation efforts continued. Authorities are examining all aspects of the incident, including whether the necessary permissions and safety requirements for firecracker-related activities were being followed. The identities of all victims and the final casualty figures are subject to official confirmation.

The tragedy has raised concerns about the risks associated with storing or manufacturing firecrackers in residential buildings. Further details are expected as the investigation progresses.
