Jamnagar, Gujarat: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio visited Reliance Industries’ Jamnagar refinery complex in Gujarat on Wednesday, bringing India-US energy cooperation into focus. The facility is widely recognised as the world’s largest single-site oil refining complex.

The visit comes amid efforts by New Delhi and Washington to strengthen bilateral energy trade and advance discussions on a broader trade agreement.

US LPG Share in India’s Imports Rises to 67%

US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor expressed his pleasure at visiting the Jamnagar complex alongside Rubio. In a post on social media platform X, Gor said the US share of India’s LPG imports had increased from less than 10% to 67% over the past year.

According to the ambassador, the increase has made the United States India’s largest supplier of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), highlighting the growing importance of energy trade between the two countries.

Reliance’s Proposed US Refinery Investment in Focus

Gor also highlighted Reliance Industries’ proposed investment plan to establish a new oil refinery in the United States.

He described the proposal as a potential opportunity to expand American energy production and create new employment opportunities.

India-US Energy Cooperation Gains Momentum

Rubio’s visit comes as India and the United States seek to deepen cooperation across the energy sector while continuing formal discussions on a broader trade agreement.

Energy trade has emerged as an important component of the two countries’ economic partnership, with both sides exploring opportunities to strengthen commercial ties and expand cooperation.

The visit to Reliance’s Jamnagar complex underscores the growing role of energy in India-US relations, particularly in LPG supplies, refining and potential investments in the energy sector.
