Mumbai: The United States has praised India's strong oil-refining capabilities, describing the country as a “refining superpower.” US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said India has the capacity to import and refine crude oil from Venezuela, potentially helping address global oil supply shortages.

Speaking to journalists in Mumbai, Rubio noted that India has extensive experience in refining crude oil. He also pointed to India's previous oil production agreements in Venezuela as a possible advantage, although certain restrictions linked to US sanctions may need to be addressed.

Rubio said Venezuelan oil could help ease global supply shortages if disruptions create a shortfall in the international energy market.
