New Delhi:A dramatic situation unfolded in Delhi on Sunday over the release of Saurabh Das and Ashutosh Ranka, co-convenors of the Crocch Janata Party (CJP). The party’s founder, Abhijit Deepake, accused the government of deliberately delaying the release process and questioned the reasons behind the continued detention of the two leaders.
Das and Ranka were reportedly sent to judicial custody for five days on October 14 following allegations of entering the Jantar Mantar area and violating police directions.
The CJP’s legal team submitted the required documents before the Special Executive Magistrate to secure their release. However, according to Ratna Singh, the party’s head of legal affairs, the process was delayed despite the verification of the sureties’ documents and completion of the necessary formalities.
The matter took another turn after concerns were raised over alleged threatening messages received by the magistrate, reportedly leading to the postponement of the hearing on the release application.
Questioning the relevance of these messages to the cases involving Das and Ranka, Singh sought an explanation for the delay in processing their release.
CJP founder Abhijit Deepake also took to social media, alleging that the government was delaying the judicial process to keep the two party colleagues in custody. He claimed there was no legal basis for their continued detention.
Delhi Police, however, rejected the allegations of deliberate delay. According to the police, the party’s representatives had submitted defective bail bonds, which could not be accepted.
The dispute has triggered a fresh controversy over the release procedure, with the CJP alleging unnecessary delays and Delhi Police maintaining that the required legal documentation must be completed correctly.
Further developments are awaited as the dispute over the release of the two CJP leaders continues.
