New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a major change in the Indian men’s cricket team selection committee. Former India spinner Pragyan Ojha has been appointed as the new chairman of the senior men’s selection committee, succeeding Ajit Agarkar.

The announcement was made on Monday, October 19, 2026. Ojha, who had been serving as the interim chief selector following Agarkar’s departure, will now take charge on a full-time basis.

In another significant development, former India cricketer Ramesh Powar has been appointed as a member of the men’s selection committee.

Ramesh Powar Joins the Selection Panel

Powar brings international playing experience and coaching expertise to the committee. He has previously served as the head coach of the Indian women’s cricket team and has worked with domestic cricket sides.

The selection process was conducted by the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), comprising Ashok Malhotra and Jatin Paranjape.

Ajit Agarkar’s Tenure Comes to an End

Agarkar’s tenure as chairman ended earlier this month, on October 4. During his time in the role, India reached the 2023 ODI World Cup final and won the 2024 T20 World Cup, the 2025 Champions Trophy and the 2026 T20 World Cup.

With Ojha now leading the selection panel and Powar joining as a new member, attention will turn to how the reconstituted committee shapes India’s squad selections and prepares the team for upcoming international assignments.

The appointments mark a significant transition in Indian cricket’s selection setup, with fans and experts watching closely for the impact of the new leadership.
