New Delhi: Another cyclonic storm may develop over the Bay of Bengal within days of Cyclone Arnab, putting Andhra Pradesh and parts of Odisha on alert.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a depression over the Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm named Murasu. The system is expected to move towards the Andhra Pradesh coast and may make landfall on the morning of November 3.

If it intensifies as forecast, Murasu will become the second cyclonic storm to form over the Bay of Bengal this year, following Cyclone Arnab, which affected the East Coast last week.

The IMD has warned of strong winds and heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in parts of Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema and Odisha. According to IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, sustained wind speeds could reach 80 to 90 kilometres per hour, with gusts of up to 100 kilometres per hour.

Although Odisha is not expected to face the direct impact of the possible cyclone, southern parts of the state may experience adverse weather conditions.

The weather is likely to change from today. A yellow warning has been issued for thunderstorms and rain in 16 districts across northern and southern Odisha.

For tomorrow, the Regional Meteorological Centre has warned of heavy rainfall in Ganjam and Gajapati districts.

Thunderstorms and lightning are also likely in 17 other districts, accompanied by winds reaching speeds of 30 to 50 kilometres per hour. A yellow alert has been issued for these areas.

The weather situation may intensify on November 3 and 4. Five districts in southern Odisha are likely to receive heavy to extremely heavy rainfall. Wind speeds may reach 50 to 60 kilometres per hour, with gusts of up to 70 kilometres per hour.

In view of the forecast, an orange alert has been issued for the affected districts.

Authorities have advised people in coastal and vulnerable areas to remain alert and follow official weather updates.
