Moscow: Two people have been killed and 17 others, including a child, injured in a Ukrainian drone attack on Russia’s Voronezh region, according to regional authorities.

Voronezh Governor Alexander Gusev said Russian air defence systems intercepted and destroyed 113 Ukrainian drones over the region during the overnight attack on October 26. The reported casualties and damage have not been independently verified by Reuters.

Industrial Fires Reported After Drone Attack

The attack triggered fires at several industrial facilities, while buildings and other infrastructure were also reportedly damaged. Firefighters and emergency response teams were deployed to contain the blazes and assist those affected.

Authorities said emergency operations were continuing as officials assessed the extent of the damage.

Passenger Train Damaged, Five Injured

The attack also disrupted railway services after a passenger train travelling from Anapa to Moscow was damaged by falling drone debris near Somovo station in the Voronezh region.

According to Russian Railways, five passengers were injured in the incident. Train services along the affected section were temporarily suspended, with delays expected for other passenger and suburban trains.

Rail Services Suspended Amid Security Concerns

Authorities temporarily halted passenger train movements through the affected area as a precaution while emergency and repair teams worked at the site.

Voronezh, located around 500 kilometres south of Moscow, is an important transport and industrial centre near the Ukrainian border. The latest incident highlights the continuing impact of the Russia-Ukraine conflict on civilian infrastructure and transport networks.

Russian authorities are continuing to assess the damage and respond to the aftermath of the attack.
