Punjab: The Aam Aadmi Party has suffered a major political setback in Punjab ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections, with three of its leaders joining the Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday.
The leaders who switched sides are Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh, MLA from Amritsar North, Chetan Singh Jouramajra, who represents Samana, and Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra, MLA from Sanaur in Patiala district.
Their induction into the BJP took place at the party headquarters in New Delhi in the presence of senior BJP leaders.
The development followed a series of resignations from the AAP. Chetan Singh Jouramajra and Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra resigned from the party on Sunday. Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh, a former IPS officer who had earlier been suspended by the AAP, announced his resignation from the Punjab Legislative Assembly on Monday.
The political developments have triggered fresh discussion over the AAP's position in Punjab, particularly as the state prepares for the 2027 Assembly elections.
The exits also pose a political challenge for Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the AAP leadership as they prepare for the upcoming electoral contest.
With three leaders moving to the BJP, Punjab's political landscape has witnessed a significant development ahead of the polls.
