Washington: Iran has reacted sharply to the Democratic Party’s sweeping victory in the US midterm elections, claiming that American voters have delivered a clear message against war. The opposition Democrats reportedly secured major victories in both chambers of Congress, dealing a significant setback to the ruling Republican Party.

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, described as a key figure in diplomatic efforts with Washington, said on Wednesday that the American people had delivered a clear mandate against war through their votes.

In a post on social media platform X, Ghalibaf said that whether driven by conscience or rising everyday living costs, Americans had made their opposition to war clear. He added that Iran supported this message.

Ghalibaf also issued a warning to the Donald Trump administration, saying that if the US government sacrificed the wishes of its own people to serve the interests of what he described as global conspirators, Iran's “No” would become a nightmare for them.

The remarks come amid escalating tensions between the United States, Israel and Iran. The conflict, which reportedly began in February, has pushed global oil prices higher and contributed to rising living costs in the US, fuelling public frustration.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump has reportedly acknowledged in an interview that the Iran war was among the major factors behind his party's poor performance in the midterm elections.

Iran's reaction highlights how the US election outcome is being viewed beyond American borders, particularly against the backdrop of the ongoing conflict and its economic consequences.
