Uttarakhand: A bride’s wedding day is usually remembered for its celebrations, rituals and emotional farewell. However, for Sharmila, a newlywed from Bulhad village in Uttarakhand, the journey to her marital home turned into an unexpected challenge.

Sharmila reportedly had to cover a difficult stretch of nearly 18 kilometres to reach her in-laws’ home in Lokhandi, wearing her heavy bridal lehenga. A video showing her navigating the mountainous route has gone viral on social media, drawing attention to the condition of roads in the remote region.

Bride Takes on Mountain Trail in Heavy Lehenga

According to reports, Sharmila was leaving Bulhad village, near Udawa in the Chakrata block, after her wedding. She travelled by vehicle for part of the journey, but the poor road connectivity meant she had to continue on foot along a difficult stretch to reach Lokhandi.

With the auspicious time for her entry into her marital home approaching, Sharmila reportedly hurried along the mountain path in her bridal attire.

The steep terrain and challenging route made the journey particularly difficult. Despite the weight of her lehenga, she continued towards her destination, with people accompanying her recording the unusual scene.

Viral Video Highlights Road Connectivity Issues

The video has attracted attention online, not only because of the bride’s determination but also because it highlights the difficulties faced by people living in remote Himalayan villages.

In the footage, Sharmila can reportedly be seen appealing to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to ensure that a proper road is constructed in her village.

Her appeal has brought renewed attention to the challenges of reaching remote settlements, where poor road access can affect everyday travel and access to essential services.

Will CM Pushkar Singh Dhami Take Action?

The incident has raised questions about road infrastructure and connectivity in Uttarakhand’s hill regions. While the state has seen various infrastructure development initiatives, residents of remote areas continue to face challenges where road access remains limited.

Sharmila’s viral video has turned a personal wedding journey into a wider appeal for better infrastructure. For residents of Bulhad and nearby areas, improved road connectivity could make travel easier and help them access essential services more conveniently.

Whether the video prompts a response from the state government and leads to improvements in the area remains to be seen.

For now, the bride’s journey has captured public attention and placed the spotlight on the everyday difficulties faced by people living in remote mountain villages.
